Hi to all new members of SP Goju-Kai Karate Club! I'm, Sa, the club blog administrator here. DENNIS LIM is co-administrator for this blog as well. He's our most friendly and hyper Green Belt dude in our club. You'll know when you meet him in camp =D

On behalf of the entire club, we like to welcome you into the club. We hope that you will grow to love Goju-Kai Karate and at the same time, have fun with all of us. We also do hope you guys will attend the SPKC FRESHMEN ORIENTATION CAMP 2009 we've prepared for you guys. It's a great opportunity to bond and get to know all of us. (Karate's not all training you know, we do have fun ^.^)

What's prepared for you guys for camp? Well, join in to find out and grab those indemnity forms from our club presidents, YEN HSIEN and BAOQIANG (aka Kungfu Panda)!

And, I'm sure you guys have met your senpai, SENPAI CHUN HWEE. If you're not sure who he is, he's the little Black belt fella with black-rimmed glasses (the jr kids love him, ain't he cute?) He's provided some video links that shows the techniques Goju-Kai Karate students can learn. They can be found at the side bar under the "Goju-Kai Karate Reference Vids".

And, just right above, you'll see photos of our recent unofficial club activities. (don't mind the no. of people attending the activities; many were on holidays) Included at the side bar are also our archive where you can view our older posts, view other members' blogs and please DO INTRODUCE YOURSELVES at the TAGBOARD. We like to know WHO you are and WHY you joined karate (don't worry, nothing strict about it) =D

P.S.: The blog's pink and simple, so what? We are Goju-Kai Karate people. We're soft and hard ^.^

Suki Sushi + Sheesha

It seems outside-club activities are not dead. We're having fun. First off, a Suki Sushi Lunch Buffet at Cineleisure Orchard on Wednesday, 15th April'09. We loaded as much Japanese food into our stomachs as much as we can, ordered and tried almost every dish on the menu including Ramen, Soba, Takoyaki, Ebi Fried, Teriyaki Chicken, Salmon Skin, Sashimi, Cold Tofu, Ice-cream, Cream Puffs and of course, Sushi!

And, to top it all off, we went to Arab Street to the unfamiliar lands of Sheesha (to some of us). It was a first and interesting experience. The flavor ordered for Sheesha was Mango Mint. I got the hang out of it after a few puffs while Jin Hui wasn't too good at it. Meanwhile, from the looks of it, Baoqiang could be your very own what-you-see as a potential smoker and as for Dennis and Joanne? Let's just say, Joanne's a veteran and Dennis is really power!

We also played with poker cards; with the absence of any poker faces within us. To sum it all, we had a great time although we did find ourselves hoping to get more of the SPKC crowd to enjoy the fun. Note to all: Outings need not be official or for the sake of CCA points. It's all about having fun with a bunch of food-loving, fun-loving and loves hanging around crowd. The photos speaks for themselves. Well, let's hope more people join in the next outing. A Short Update

Yes, I hear you. The blog's almost pink or should I say, it's really pink! According to a feedback, the blog looks dull so the color was changed. However, this is only temporary until we get a new or better template which coughs* Matthew coughs* owes me for about a year now.

Anyway, we are in the midst of preparing for SPKC FOC'09! Therefore, people do make it a point to help out and offer suggestions. If you wanna get more gurls and guyz in, you must make an effort! Please contact Jaiden or Yan Hsien for details.

Affairs in CLub part 5

This is Detective Ronald reporting on the latest..

Apparently, just before Pala went into labour, he confessed to Gyii that he is not the biological Father. It turned out that Pala was already pregnant before the two of them patched up...
This could only mean one thing..the real Father is JIN HUI!!

Furious, Gyii called off the celebrations and once again, filed divorce. During my interview with him, he commented "someone has to be responsible for the baby, and its not going to be me".

Though Pala had refused interview, a nurse from the gynae department disclosed that she overheard Pala saying that he would change the name of the baby as the previous was came up by the both of them, and since they are no longer together, he feels that it is only appropriate to come up with a new name. According to Lizhe, one of Jin Hui's closer friends, Jin Hui's favourite alphabets are I-N-E and X...hmmm could this be the new name of the baby girl??

Affairs in the club part 4

Breaking news!!

Our popular couple Pala & Gyii have returned from their long, stimulating honeymoon. HOWEVER! They are not alone; for together with them is their second child: a daughter! According to their family doctor, their child is due soon: "Yes. She is due soon. No worries. She is perfectly healthy and pretty. This must be the genes and "hard work" from her parents." The young couple will be naming their daughter "Joanne" with the middle name of "Alex". And, to celebrate this happy news, the couple has invited everyone to their villa for a cocktail party. So, what are you waiting for? Get yourself down there!

Meanwhile, at Dennis Jr's side, things have gotten out of hand. Joining in the race to win Dennis Jr's heart, are Huizhuang and Ka Sing! Our very Detective Ronald personally interviewed them to find out more. This is what he has found:

Why, Dennis Jr?

Huizhuang: He's got taste in music, plus he's agressive. Definitely someone who can give a feeling of security and assurance.

Ka Sing: So simple. He can eat. I like guys who can eat and have big appetities. So man ... Oh, you recording this? How em-baaras-ssinggg ... ...

How you feel about your rival, Haoyu? There's quite a few people rooting for him. Think you can win against him?

Huizhuang: Of course. I'm confident I can win him. I'll use any method I can to win this. (sinister laugh)

Ka Sing: Eh? Ai yo, you asking for real? Most definitely can! I'll turn on my charm and get Haoyu to be distracted from Dennis Jr and turn his attention to me. Then, at the right moment, break him down and steal Dennis Jr away. Smart, right?

Oh, oh ... tough, tough competition ... How will Haoyu do in this race? Has he got any plans? Is he strong enough to take on this two new rivals? I guess, we'll find out soon enough. For now, start voting for the Most Suited Person For Dennis Jr. Cast your votes now in the tagboard!

Affairs in club part 3

It's been going around lately that Pala and his divorced partner, Gyii has reconciled. There were claims from several of our people that they had seen the duo not once, but a few times together alone, behaving intimately outside of our club, in hopes of staying far away from our eyes. Yet, they could not escape the eyes of the more observant ones. Ladies and gentlemen, it's now been made official: Pala and Gyii have reconciled!

Says an inside source who only wants to be known as JxxHxx, "I knew that only Gyii completes him. Since he's happy, I'll give him my blessings."

The duo was reportedly to have divorced over a heated arguement over the best design for their offspring, Ronald's new room. However, nothing can stop their love for each other. After starting new relationships with others, the duo has come to terms that they cannot be without the other. Thus, disappointing the others and reconciling with each other.

As of right now, they are having their exotic and erotic honeymoon at Hawaii. Now, people let's give them our blessings and hope the best for their reconcilation!

Nope, it's not the end of the affairs in our club. Another new relationship has started in fact. Through an interview with Marissa, it is discovered that Haoyu has kicked his partner, Lizhe and his baggage out of the house and has set target on Dennis Jr.

Says Marissa, "I can't believe it. I always thought they made a nice couple. And, now that Lizhe's outta picture, Haoyu's in hot pursuit for Dennis Jr. I'm sure he will win Dennis Jr over!! He has what it takes!!"

Will Haoyu be able to win Dennis Jr over? Or will Dennis Jr slap him with a rejection? What do you think? I guess we'll find it out sooner or later ... For now, stay tuned! ^_^

Physical Training Sessions on every Tuesday

Hey guys,

From now on, physical training sessions will be held on every tuesday. Though optional, you are strongly encouraged to attend them if you are seeking to improve your physiques (and its free =] ). The details are as followed:

Time : 530pm (every Tuesday)
Duration: 1 to 1.5 hour
Venue: Clubhouse
Attire: Running gear (running shoes, sports pants/shorts, Tee) and TOWEL
Coaches: Jin Hui/Dennis(young one)/Ronald

You are strongly advised to have a LIGHT meal 15 to 30 minutes before the training session. IF YOU HAVE ANY CONDITIONS (eg asthma, previous injuries, sprains), PLEASE INFORM THE INCHARGE AND BRING ALONG YOUR MEDICATION (if any).

Please do help to spread the word around as well =)

It has been confirmed that tall, dark and stout guys are especially attractive in SPKC. My investigations revealed that 2 of the committee members has fallen for Pala, whom possessed the traits above. I cannot reveal their identities, mainly due to the fact that one is the vp of the club and he'll probably dish out more sai gang for me if he finds out that I've disclosed his secret, while the other is.....
erm lets just say marissa would complain that its unfair that I disclosed her identity and never reveal the identity of the other.

Apparently it all started out as they took the same train back home after trainings and feelings developed when they started "leaning" on Pala when the train gets squeezy (Those taking the same train back with them, please stop them when they start tearing each other apart over Pala).

This maddness has to stopped before disaster befalls. I have to do something...fast. I guess the only way is to make Pala mine and have the 2 of them give up on him. For now, I have to start shopping for a Sari and practise hard for my pole/belly dance....

Pala's Birthday Celebration

Last Sunday, 18th May 2008, some of us were invited to Pala's birthday celebration. As he probably had certain things to settle, his birthday celebration was postponed until that date. Therefore, Sunday was his belated birthday celebration. Pala invited SPKC members, his friends from both his old schools and Polytechnic. His relatives were there too, as well as his loving family. The venue for his birthday celebration was at Muthu's Curry Rest, located in Little India. The time - 6.45pm.

Sadly, many of our members were unable to make it. This left only Haoyu, Lizhe, Dennis (Jr), Jin Hui, Ronald and me, who came later because I had work. I was stunned. I'm the only girl from SPKC! It feels like I represent the female population in SPKC ==''
Though the number of us was little, it was quite fun and enjoyable. We kept suaning Lizhe. We found fault with his talking, opinions and even his wardrobe! Dennis (Jr), Haoyu and I kept arguing with him and attack him with our opinions. Lol. Guess who won in the end? Of course, its us! Therefore, everyone, please be reminded that Lizhe has to treat us Pizzahut on Thursday, 22 May 2008.

In addition, the food there was nice. The guys ate second, third servings! My, my ... they're really big eaters, especially Dennis (Jr). Also, they kept ordering for Papadum, a crispy snack that one usually eats with Nasi Briyani! We even used the snack and put it in our mouths and pose in front of the camera during photo-taking with Pala.

After the event, all of us, except Lizhe decided to make our way to Dhoby Ghaut to try to catch a movie. (Lizhe, you anti-social! ><) Many seats were taken, therefore, we had to get the couple seats in the cinema. We got tickets for only 4 of us, as Ronald was going home. We sent Ronald to the MRT station before loitering around for more than an hour before the 11.40pm movie, Chocolate, started. The movie was great. There were no stunt doubles and the main lead really kicked ass. We enjoyed the movie. However, just an answer to any of you guys who would ask me if I wanna start training and kick ass after watching the show; the answer is "We'll see ..." Lol.

Anyway, it was coming close to 2am when we got out of the cinema. Dennis (Jr) and Jin Hui took the nightrider bus home while I and Haoyu shared cab. Haoyu looked shagged and sounded sick. He said he had no voice and said he wasn't feeling ill. That was really weird and worrying. No one will have no voice if they're not feeling ill. Hence, I told him to go and sleep early instead. Honestly, you can sleep but play playstation. ==''' Do take better care of your body and get enough rest. Same goes for all who has assignments and school-related things coming at you.

Haoyu's Birthday Celebration

Today, I mean yesterday, 9th May'08 before 12 midnight, some of us celebrated Chong Haoyu's birthday. For those who don't know who's this bugger, let me give you a brief introduction of him:

Chong Haoyu
- Nicknamed "Shaoye"

- Birthday is on the 10th May 1988
- A fresh graduate from SP
- Studied in Sch of Maritime
- Gonna shave bald sometime soon when he gets into NS
- Currently attached
- An eccentric, daring guy ^_^

Okay, introduction over, now we move on to what we did. We went to celebrate a day before his birthday. There was me, Jin Hui, Ronald, Wan Ping, Tina, Dennis, Michelle, Gyii, Inex, Vincent and Joshua who celebrated Haoyu's birthday. We decided to eat at a Chinese eatery and watch the movie "Ironman". And, here are the pictures of us eating at the eatery (the picture does not show me of course ^^) :

After that, we watched Ironman. It was totally awesome despite the fact that I hear critics from him -_- However, too bad that many of them went off and did not stay for after the credits. Only me, Joshua and Haoyu stayed for it. There was a major hint that there's gonna be a second Ironman movie.

Anyway, all of us had a great time. Hope that Haoyu loved his book given by me and the shirt given by Wan Ping and many others. Happy Birthday to you, Chen, I mean Chong Haoyu!

CNY Dinner 2008

"Ittadakimasu!" was the word in our mind on this day at around the evening time. It was the 4th of Feb and we were having an early CNY dinner with Sensei Seng. Just before the dinner, we were having a meeting in the clubhouse, in which disappointingly, a few turned up.

There was me, Hui Zhuang, Qi Jun, Ronald, Li Zhe, Senpai Chun Hwee, Hao Yu, Wan Ping, Dennis (who had to leave early) and Jin Hui (who came in late) in the clubhouse. We discussed the schedule of mending the booth during the freshmen orientation, some stuff about freshmen camp and a bit of the banner design. The meeting was wrapped up at around 5pm in which we later waited until close to 7pm before heading out to meet our Senpai, Susan. Then, we went down to Buona Vista to meet Sensei Seng at a coffee shop.

There were many dishes! Sensei ordered and paid for them! There was XO chicken, beef, sweet and sour pork, 2 different types of veggies, toufu, mee goreng, rice and the traditional first dish of CNY dinner. Sounds like a spread, huh?

Club meeting

There is going to be a club meeting on the 4th Feb at 4pm before training starts. Everyone, please take note and go for the meeting. We are going to discuss about the orientation'08, club banner (which I still need to work on -_-''), flyer, performing and the orientation camp'08.

And, here's another thing the club needs to know your opinions on our training. Therefore, please post your opinions on the paper, which can be found on the clubhouse noticeboard. This will also be discussed during the meeting.

Last, but not least, do keep everyone's number and email. And, check your email or this site for updates.

Club meeting

Eto .... it's been a long time since I updated this site. So, let me give you some brief description of what's going on now in the club ....

As you all know the seniors are graduating, so there's a need to recruit people to become the next committee. We need to keep the club going. Organise activities. Make sure people go for trainings. Do some team bonding. Recruit the next year's freshees into the club. Therefore, the seniors are selecting people for the positions.

All I know is that Li Zhe will probably be our next club president. He has some experience regarding how the club runs. And, as for the other new committee members, it is not yet revealed. Instead, people are being selected to manage some activities. I think this is so that they can pick out the best bah.

And below is what some people are going to be doing for the club:

Club outing (most likely during the 2 week break): Li Zhe & Gin
Banner design (for next year CCA drive): Marissa & Chris
Brochure design(for next year CCA drive): Huizhuang & Jin Hui

Grading Exams are over!

The grading exams are finally over! Gone are the nervousness and the butterflies in the stomach! There were less girls who took the grading exam. Kids came in as well to take the grading exams. They looked so cute and Senpai Chun Hwee looked like a kindergarden teacher leading those students > < handphone =(

Grading is finally around the corner. It's TOMORROW !! And, there was an extra lesson conducted by sensei today. However, one thing I have to say: "WHERE THE STUDENTS ??!" There was like 8 students who turned up! Argh, never mind ... I guess people may have classes (hopefully that's the reason). I even turned up, even though I could always stay at the main library until the SA Fair ended.

Wondering why I'm at the fair? I'm a writer for OOPS! magazine. Cool huh? I just got this position after I passed the writing test I took last friday. Hopefully, the OOPS! crew would plan to do an article on SP clubs. Then, I can say something about the SPKC. Okay, maybe not. That's biased ^^

Anyway, hope everyone comes back to training and we can live to see the day when our dojo is filled with everyone's presence. Full attendance! And, don't stress with school work. Get more exercise. Go karate training and release your bottled up stress.

Also, BESTA LUCK to those taking their grading exam! Go break a leg and get a double promo if you can!! =D

Training for Quality

Today, training was as usual. At the same time, same place, same day. However, today I experienced pain. For training today, we first started out with some stretching exercises followed by warm up exercises. We did jumping on the spot and jumping while changing legs; right in front, then left in front, then right in front (you get the picture). Just how many times we did that ... I already lost count.

Then, we went for some jogging, followed by running and fast speed running. We jogged three rounds from our training mat all the way turning round pizza hut and back to the mat and again. Then, after jogging three rounds, we ran three rounds. After that, we stopped and got ready to do some fast speed running. First we sprint to pizza hut then ran back to the same place where we started off sprinting...

Following that, we jogged backwards, and ran back one round to our starting place. Then, we ran sideways and ran back one round to the mat. We then took a short break after doing some breathing exercises.

We then started on our kata training. We, yellow belts tried to follow the lesson where the seniors were doing their kata however, we were soon struggling -_- ''

Within the last few minutes of our training session, Sensei Lawrence taught us some kumite tactics. We did three types of moves.

By the time, the whole training session ended, I was bushed. My calves were aching and I could not walk normally. I wondered how the others felt. I heard from Huizhuang that she can't follow the kata exercise the seniors were doing as well... I'm glad I got another companion who can't follow ... if not I'm the only useless one -_-

Sounds tough huh? However, I don't think this is the toughest. I think there are other trainings that are even tougher. All these trainings are to help us to have better quality moves and tactics, also to train us physically in stamina, endurance and mind.

However, when I think of this training, I suddenly had a thought. Our club may not have many members but we do have the people who can and are determined to endure all these trainings. We don't have the quantity but we do have the quality.

There are some people who have tried training with us, however, within one training session experience, we never saw nor heard from them again. I guess they could not take it. Therefore, I'm proud that the club has a number of people who can take such training. I'm sure they can become even better if they continue.

Hence, we should not be too disappointed if we have less members. Afterall, isn't quality better than quantity? =D

Training as usual

Today, I turned up for karate training for the second time since semester 2 started. The people who turned up for training was quite little. There were 5 girls and 8 guys, plus 1 Sensei. This is not a good sign. I heard that there is a competition coming up next year. Time passes very fast, therefore, we have to continue to train.

More importantly, there is a grading exam coming up of the 25th October. That's about 3 training sessions away. Training for grading exam is crucial. There is kata practices to be done. And, you have to get your legs to be used to the half squats for the kata movements. For those who want to catch up with talented people like Huizhuang and Gin, do come for training.

Oh, one more thing, you cannot escape from grading. Die, die, you have to go through. ( Inex, I changed my mind. Therefore, I'm going to drag you in. The movements still same as the ones we did in our first grading exam. ) At least give it a try. However, before that, practise and come for the 3 training sessions so that you can prepare yourself.

P.S. 15 October 2007, Monday: Training fee and grading fee are to be handed in to Wan Ping.

Welcome back

Hey there, everybody. Just want to welcome back everyone. It is a new semester. It's going to be more busy from now on. Therefore, JIA YOU ! Take more vitamin C. Eat more. Do your assignments early. Stop playing computer games until late night !! Stop reading yaoi manga until late night as well ...

And, most important of all, ATTEND trainings. Karate club training doesn't stop. Don't be like me, pon training so many times. The vice club president, Hao Yu is nagging at me each time.

Oh yeah, and look forward to more things coming up on this website. And, when I have the time, I am going to not rely on blogger and just create a whole new spkc website from scratch.

Cancelled !!!

The proposed night cycling on 24th August has been cancelled. The activity is changed to a movie screening at a classroom. Isn't it sad? Aww ... I've been looking forward to it. It's the Hungry Ghost Festival; isn't it thrilling to night cycle at this kind of time ? Doing abnormal stuff >< (People will throw eggs at me if they hear me say this ... lol ...)

Anyway, it's holiday for me and for the rest of the karate members; their exams are ending soon. Carry on, guys! Just a bit more then you can go berserk! But, don't forget to come for training as well !! =D And, maybe if you guys are free on the 25th Sept, we go eat mooncakes, admire the moon and moon-bath at the red bridge ?? ^_^

Here are the pictures taken at Simei ITE. It is the day where our club participated in the karate tournament and achieved six gold medals. During the lunch break, Inex, Marissa, Dennis, Wan Ping, Hui Zhuang and Esther went to the foodcourt and saw this big eye fish and many others. All of them acted like they haven't seen fishes before and kept on following the fishes and takin pictures of them

After tournament, they decide to go have a mini celebration. Samantha entertained everyone by coming up with a question "Can you find the smallest 'Singapore' word in the dollar note?" Hao Yu took a real long time searching and looked very silly. Lol ^^

Everyone's tired from the assignments and tests. Just like in this picture, they long to take a rest like the BLEACH group. But, all's not done yet. One more week to go, so JIA YOU, minna-san!! ><

Argh ... I need more stuff to sweeten and spice up this blog !!! Someone give me photos and videos !!! I still have to hand in my sketchbook this friday, have a test next Wednesday and hand in my STSB next friday. Yet, why am I still concerned over this blog ? I also don't know.

Sian ... all I know is that after next week. Its BREAK TIME !! Finally! I can work on this blog. Use the pictures, do some photoshop and make a nicer header and background. I want to make it something nice. Then, put the link on SP website. There are still people who don't know about the construction of this blog. So, those that I allow you to preview this blog ... Shh !! >_<

Haiz ... won't be going for training. I guess I will do my work and watch them then. I'll try to get the images by tomorow. Then, I can post it up. It's going to be a long hard work but it's worth it. ^^

6 Lil' Gold Medals I once knew ... Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too ...

Hey, I forgot to add another thing. It is about SPKC latest achievement ...

We took part in a karate tournament last Saturday, 31 July 2007. Overall, we achieved 6 Gold Medals. It was a long and tiring event for everyone. In addition, it was exciting while we anticipated the victory of our team and root for our fellow members. After the event was over, we went to Burger King at Tampines Mall to have dinner and chat about that day's events. All in all, it was a tiring but enjoyable day >_<

Stuff we do during training:

Practise our basics ( basics are the foundation of most of our karate moves; they are very important !! ), sparring ( mini competition among fellow members ), learn kata ( very beautiful hand and leg movements; sometimes it looks like a combat dance to me ^^ ), bond with each other ...

The people there:

Friendly, "unique", helpful, caring, enthusiastic, funny, playful, hardworking, disciplined and there is all sorts of people there ...

In addition about the club :

A very weird club which matchmakes the people there. Currently, there are 3 new comer girls who have paired up with 3 seniors in the club. Interesting huh ? =D
